NOTIZIARIO DI CIPRO NORD

Giovedì, Aprile 26, 2012 n. 67
LEFKOSA - Ufficio di Promozione e Informazione
Ente del ministero Esteri di Cipro Nord

PRIME MINISTER KÜÇÜK: “NEGOTIATION PROCESS MIGHT BE SUSPENDED FOR A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME OR DECREASED IN LEVEL OF PRESENCE”
Prime Minister Ýrsen Küçük referring to the decision of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon to not to hold a multipartitate conference with the excuse that there was “insufficient progress at the negotiation process” said “Negotiation process might be suspended for a certain period of time or decreased in the level.  It appears that it is not possible to achieve a result within this time period”.
Küçük stated that this new environment will be evaluated with the government, the political parties at the Parliament and Turkish Government and after these evaluations President Derviþ Eroðlu will decide the course of action. Küçük said “I expect this new situation to be evaluated by the political parties at the Parliament and at the Council of Ministers and after evaluating with the Turkish Government to take necessary steps.”
Prime Minister Küçük evaluated the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue to Turkish News Agency (TAK). Regarding the decision of not holding a multipartitate conference due to the “insufficient progress at the negotiation process” Küçük said “This decision did not meet some of our expectations but it is the UN Secretary-General’s evaluation.  This proves that there was not sufficient progress at the negotiation process. We came to the same conclusion according to the information provided to us by the President Derviþ Eroðlu. We have always emphasized the reluctance of the Greek Cypriot side at the negotiation table.”
“If we are to reach a settlement, this must be achieved with both sides’ will. The negotiation process cannot be concluded successfully with only one side’s will. We openly expressed this situation everywhere. We have not seen the will to take constructive steps at Christofias.
It is almost time for the EU Term Presidency of the Greek Cypriot side at 1st of July. That is another important issue. A dangerous process regarding the continuation of the talks of Turkey and TRNC began. This proves that there will be at least six months of delay at the negotiation process.
There will be Presidency elections at the Greek Cypriot side after the EU term Presidency. We shall see the stance of the newly elected Greek Cypriot president in any case. It does not appear that any instrumental progress at the negotiation process will be achieved within this period of time.”

OZERSAY: “MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT EROGLU AND DOWNER WILL BE VERY CRITICAL”
Kudret Ozersay, the Special Representative of the President, said that the meeting to be held tomorrow (27 April) between President Dervis Eroglu and the Special Adviser of the UNSG Alexander Downer would be very critical in terms of the future of the Cyprus negotiation process.
Ozersay stated that the future of the talks was uncertain. Pointing out that suspending the talks was not an option for the TRNC, Ozersay said: “We are saying that we should put forward everything at the table and work towards reaching a solution.”
Ozersay delivered a conference at London School of Economics, titled: “The Cyprus Talks: Exhausted? Timefor Change?”  In his speech, Ozersay said: “It is not possible to reach a solution in the island without the will of both sides. UN cannot impose a decision. We don’t accept this.”
Underlining the importance of the meeting between President Eroglu and Special Adviser Downer to be held tomorrow, Ozersay added: “This process cannot continue as it is, particularly without a dead line, which is important for a success at the negotiations.”
Upon a question whether there was a B plan on the Cyprus issue or not, Ozersay said: “It is important if there is a joint B plan. It is also important to work on a joint B plan. I cannot reply this question alone because it has to be replied together with the Greek Cypriots.”
INAUGURATION CEREMONY TO BE HELD TODAY FOR DRILLING WELL OF “TÜRKYURDU-1”
The Turkish Petroleum Corporation’s (TPAO) land drilling activities for oil and natural gas in the village of Sýnýrüstü will start in the TRNC today.
President Derviþ Eroðlu, Prime Minister Irsen Küçük, Minister of Economy and Energy Sunat Atun and Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yýldýz will attend to the inauguration ceremony that will be held at the village of Sýnýrüstü at 11:30 today.
Following the inauguration of drilling well there will also be a press briefing at Kaya Artemis Hotel.
Minister of Economy and Energy Sunat Atun made statements to the Anatolian News Agency regarding the launch of drilling activities conducted in accordance with the agreement signed between TRNC and Turkey.
Atun said the technical works expected to be completed within 3-6 months period.
Stating that the works currently carried out are in research characteristics Atun said “It is a fact that there is a reserve in that region. Drilling of this reserve in most feasible way and place will be determined as a result of researches made. The drilling activities will be conducted either in land or sea. The TRNC as an owner of natural gas reservoir will take place in world market.  This is important for the TRNC not only in political means but also in economical means”.
